There have recently been reports made to us regarding youths causing anti-social behaviour (ASB) around the Cresset Centre in Bretton. The reports include behaviour such as shouting, swearing, riding bikes through the centre, and activating the fire alarm.
To tackle this issue, our northern neighbourhood teams have been dedicating time in their shifts to patrol the area and identify the individuals involved. Those found to be causing ASB will have police action taken against them in the form of Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) and Community Protection Notices (CPNs) being issued.
A CPW is a letter of warning, issued to allow for an individual to take the necessary steps to improve the situation at hand. When issued, the receiver must stop the behaviour or conduct detailed in the warning letter with immediate effect.
Failure to comply with a CPW could lead to a CPN being issued which is a formal notice issued if the conditions of a warning letter have been breached. It details formal action required to be taken to prevent further behaviour that could be considered as harmful to the community.
Failure to comply with a CPN is a criminal offence and could lead to a criminal prosecution and conviction.
So far, the team have issued one CPW, with another waiting to be issued and people being spoken to in regard to various offences. This is as well as home visits with parents
Signs have been put up around the centre stating the issues and outlining what action we are taking to tackle the issue.
Since these dedicated patrols have started, reports of ASB in the centre have decreased. We will continue to tackle the issue and regularly patrol the centre, especially in the evenings when the behaviour is at its worst.
