Last week, we held a day of action as part of an ongoing operation to tackle shoplifting across the city.
Operation Interstellar brought together officers from different departments, including our student officers learning their trade and neighbourhood policing, as well as teams from Peterborough City Council, CCTV operators, Peterborough Positive and local retailers.
Five arrests were made in the city centre on the day, and stolen goods were recovered and returned to stores:
π Theft from Poundland β charged and due in court next month
π Theft from The Works and Asda β bailed until next year
π Assaulting a police officer β released with no further action
π Theft from B&M β charged and due in court this month
Theft from Poundland β charged and due in court next month.
Since the start of last month, we have made a total of 75 arrests for shoplifting across Peterborough, with 50 people charged so far β 27 of those have been sentenced, with 13 people put in prison for a combined total of three-and-a-half years, and compensation and fines amounting to more than Β£5,600.
