In recent days, social media has been abuzz with posts about the fly-tipping left at the Pyramid site on Saturday, March 21, 2026, underscoring the community’s concern and the importance of staying informed.
In response to this incident, the Chair of Bretton Parish Council has provided a detailed account of the events that took place that day, aiming to keep residents informed and promote transparency. Please see below:
On Saturday, 21/03/26, at approximately 1:45 pm to 2 pm at the Pyramid, a van driver had emptied some of his van contents into a resident’s bin and took it over to the lorry to be emptied.
As it was emptied into the lorry, we did not see the contents. But after the bin was returned to the gentleman and Aragon began crushing its contents, we heard a loud, explosive bang (like a bomb detonating), and dust flew out of the dust cart.
Aragon ran to the lorry and switched it off to investigate what had happened. Aragon established what we assumed were chunks of concrete and brought them out. It was then that we realised the blade had broken in the lorry. At this time, it was still very busy with people queuing to use the Bulky Waste Facility.
Aragon spoke to the man, who apologised. Our main priority was to fill the lorry as much as possible, as no other replacement was available.
I had asked the fly-tipping couple to come and put their rubbish, which they had dumped on the grass, into the van, as per the process advertised by the Parish Council on many occasions.
The couple never materialised, and as the lorry was full by 2:55 pm, it was decided to leave the items on the grass and report it as fly-tipping. I did so, and it was cleared before 12 pm on Monday, 23/03/26.
As Lisa and I were on our mobility scooters, we were not in a position to help Aragon. To be honest, the room on the lorry was very tight, which is why they left at 2:55 pm. Lisa and I stayed until 3 pm to ensure all was ok.
It was a man and woman tag team that left the fly-tipping, and I spoke to him around 12:45 pm – 1 pm, asking if he was coming back. He said he was; he was going back to get some more items.
