On Tuesday evening, our eastern neighbourhood team attended an emergency call that came in about a collision in Shrewsbury Avenue, Woodston, and a suspected drink driver.
Thankfully no one was injured, however the driver didn’t stop but was found by the officers nearby in Newcastle Drive.
They administered a roadside breath test where the man, who is in his 30s and from Orton Longueville, blew 164 – almost five times the legal limit of 35!
Needless to say, he was arrested and later charged with drink driving after providing an evidential sample in custody of 130, still almost four times the limit. He was also charged with driving without insurance and is due in court later this month.
Do you know someone who drink drives? We’ve got a confidential hotline which is available 24/7 where you can report concerns to us by calling 0800 032 0845. Information about drink driving, the law and the penalties can be found on our dedicated drink drive webpage.
Last month we carried out our annual drink drive campaign, which saw more than 90 drink or drug drivers arrested and calls to the confidential hotline double. You can read more about the campaign on our website.
