Individuals have been depositing prohibited items during the night or early morning hours, thereby shifting the responsibility to others for disposal/reporting. Such actions undermine the service and detract from the aesthetic integrity of our community.
Some believe it is permissible to fly-tip, particularly in the vicinity of schools, or to leave items at the sites after the refuse truck has departed. This behaviour is wholly unacceptable. Consequently, the Parish Council may be compelled to reassess the site locations, including the potential reduction of sites adjacent to schools due to safety concerns for children.
Information regarding the service’s details and schedules is readily available on Facebook pages, the official Parish Council website, signs, noticeboards, and the Bretton Gazette, thus providing ample opportunity for compliance.
The bulky waste service represents a significant benefit to the residents of Bretton. Over 21 tons of waste were collected last month, and approximately 22 tons were collected on Saturday, 17th May 2025, indicating a substantial demand for such a service within our community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to those who use the service appropriately and adhere to the established guidelines. Your responsible actions are a testament to the strength of our community. However, the transgressions of a few individuals who intentionally violate the rules threaten the sustainability of this essential service.
These occurrences impose undue pressure on the Aragon team, the volunteer Parish Councillors, and the residents who assist at each site monthly. Furthermore, Parish Councillors have unfortunately encountered verbal abuse, intimidation, and threatening behaviour, which is entirely unacceptable and must cease immediately.
It is essential for all community members to collaborate in the effort to eliminate fly-tipping. By utilising the service correctly and following the established rules, we can ensure the longevity of this valuable resource and contribute positively to our collective well-being.
