Good morning,
I’m writing to make you aware of upcoming changes to local bus services due to take effect from 2 January 2026, and to ask for your active support in helping to ensure residents are aware and prepared.
These service changes form part of the Combined Authority’s ongoing work to protect and improve the bus network across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, ensuring rural and market town communities remain connected to jobs, education and essential services.
Why We Need Your Help
The new contracts are currently out for procurement, and final operator appointments will not be confirmed until early November. Once confirmed, we will begin public communications immediately, but with the Christmas period following soon after, the window to reach residents before the new services start on 2 January is limited.
We therefore need your help to amplify these messages locally to ensure people in your parish or town understand:
- That routes and timetables will be changing from early January
- How the new services will operate
- What this means for their regular journeys.
Areas Affected
Two areas of the region will be directly affected by these network updates:
- Ely and surrounding villages – From 2 January 2026, the current 9, 9A and 125 services will be replaced by new, improved 10, 10A and X10 routes, enhancing connections between Ely, Littleport, Little Downham, Stretham, Little Thetford and Cambridge.
- Ramsey and Whittlesey area – The new X31 service will provide a direct connection between Ramsey and Peterborough, replacing the current 31 which requires a change at Whittlesey. Residents in Whittlesey will continue to be served by the 33 bus for direct journeys to Peterborough.

How You Can Support
We would be grateful if you could:
- Familiarise yourselves with the attached summary documents outlining the upcoming changes to the Ely (10, 10A, X10) and Ramsey (X31) bus networks, so you are aware of what’s planned and how it may affect your residents.
- Consider how you can help communicate these changes once we are able to go public in November — for example, through newsletters, websites, parish noticeboards, or social media channels. We are happy to provide tailored content for newsletters, please send any requests to Sophie.clarke@cambridgeshirepeterborough-ca.gov.uk. We will also provide a range of digital assets for use online and on social media.
- Plan for local engagement, particularly for residents who may rely heavily on these services for accessing work, education, or healthcare.
- Submit requests now for any printed materials (posters, leaflets or flyers) that would support local awareness once communications can begin. Please email sophie.clarke@cambridgeshirepeterborough-ca.gov.uk with your requirements, address details and approximate quantities so we can ensure materials are ready for prompt distribution once public communications begin.
