Do you have CCTV or a video doorbell installed outside your home?
There are many benefits to having cameras outside of your home, one of them being that it can protect your vehicle!
Between 1 January and 9 February this year, we have had 29 crimes raised for theft from vehicles across Peterborough, and we believe many going unreported. More information on the crimes raised can be found on our website
If you were to fall victim to theft from a vehicle, this video footage could be extremely beneficial to the investigation and identifying the offender. Many crimes are often unable to be investigated due to the lack of video footage that would build the case.
For van owners, there are also small cameras available to have installed inside the vehicle. These are specially designed to film the inside of the van, and could be extremely helpful if a crime was to happen.
To protect yourself from falling victim to this crime, it is important to remember:
- Lock your vehicle whenever it is left unattended.
- Always take your valuables with you. Items such as bags and purses should never be left in a vehicle!
- Hide any traces that suggest there is something in the area, such as cables.
All it takes for opportunist thieves is to find one unlocked vehicle…
