Essential Tree Felling Works and Woodland Closure
We are writing to confirm notification of essential health and safety tree works that are scheduled to be take place within the woodland area at the rear of Deerleap and Muskham. These works are to commence Monday 3rd November 2025 and are anticipated to last for up to one week.
These works are essential to manage and mitigate safety risks posed as a result of a number of identified trees suffering with ash dieback disease and a wood decay that can compromise their structural integrity. The recent storm in early October exemplified the need for these works where we lost two large trees as a result.
Given the condition of trees along with the proximity to residential buildings we shall be looking to use specialist machinery (tele-handler-based grapple saw) to allow for the trees to be cut and removed safely and efficiently. Due to the risks associated with this operation the woodland will be closed for public access, and we will be closing the footpath (from the Blind Lane/allotments to King Henry chase) for the duration of the works. In additional, all other informal access points (from Sprignall / Muskam and Deerleap) will be closed off also.
During these works there will be some noise disturbance due to the type of machinery being used.
Following the work to remove the diseased trees we will be carrying out replacement planting of an appropriate species with the aim of creating a resilient tree stock for the future.
