In response to your concerns about the illegal and anti-social use of e-scooters in the city centre, we carried out two days of action last week.
Over the two days, 16 e-scooters were seized. The riders have been reported for riding without a licence or insurance, with one also being reported for failing to stop.
It was great to hear such positive feedback from those out and about, and we will be holding more days of action as part of our work to tackle the issue.
Do you know the laws on e-scooters? Here’s a reminder:
They are classed as motor vehicles, which means to legally use one, you need the correct licence, insurance and tax. Riding without this could result in being issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) and points on your licence.
It is not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters in the UK, meaning it is illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces. If you own an e-scooter, you can only use it on private land with the permission of the landowner.
